Unfortunately, due to the cold weather the grade 3 teachers have decided to postpone our "Rock Walk" until next Tuesday, September 16th. We felt that it will just be too cold to spend the afternoon down at Lion's Park. Hopefully the weather will cooperate with us on Tuesday!
Today during Daily 5 we focused on expanding our vocabulary by "tuning in to interesting words." When children learn to tune in to interesting words, they build word awareness and the understanding of words By looking for words that are interesting and unique, children not only increase their vocabulary, but they also enhance their comprehension.
In class we read the story Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. This story is full of interesting words to focus on. Our class picked out the word dreadful to learn it's meaning and begin to use it in their spoken vocabulary. Many of the students commented on how dreadful the weather has been over the last couple of days!
