This Week in Review

We had a great start to our week by announcing Miss S. as our first classroom V.I.P.  Throughout the week our class had the opportunity to get to know our V.I.P. a little better.  Thank you to our V.I.P. for reading to the class from one of her favourite books, Geronimo Stilton.

This week the students worked very hard at completing the written components of the Student Learning Assessments, which included literacy and numeracy.  They did a great job and I'm so proud of them.  Next week the students will finish the digital part of the assessment.

We used "The Most Thankful Thing" by Lisa McCourt as a mentor text for our writing project this week.  After reading this story, the students discussed what they were most thankful for.  They chose their top 10 "Most Thankful Things" and created Wordles on the Chrome Books.  The students really loved this project.

In Math we finished up our "Patterns and Relations" unit this week.  We will be reviewing increasing and decreasing patterns on Wednesday and the students will be writing their unit exam on Thursday.  We will continue to focus on the doubles math fact strategy for one more week.

In science, the students were so excited to be able to eat metamorphic rocks!  We discussed how although all of oatmeal raison cookies came from the same batch, no one cookie was the same.  This relates to how all rocks are different, even though they may be comprised of the same minerals.

In social studies, we have completed our mapping skills.  We started to learn about the 7 continents of the world.  This will help give the students a point of reference when studying India, Peru, Tunisia and the Ukraine.

The focus of the Character Ed assemblies this month has been gratitude.  Each student contributed a leaf to our school "Thankful" tree.  Great job RBES!

On Friday our class participated in a Bus Safety presentation.  Please ask your child what they have learned about bus safety.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving.  I am especially thankful for my family, students and to be part of such a wonderful school community.
