During Writer's Workshop the students completed their 3rd Traveling Book entitled "Halloween Riddles." At our Halloween party I took a picture of each student in their costume. The next week we talked about describing their costumes using creative word choices. The students then wrote 4 clues about their costumes, without giving away what they were. We hope you enjoy reading the students riddles and trying to guess what each student was for Halloween.
This week we started our first Novel Study on Freckle Juice by Judy Blume. Freckle Juice is a story about a boy who wanted freckles so his mom wouldn't notice that his neck was dirty. If she doesn't know it's dirty, he won't have to wash it. Sounds about right. Some boys will do whatever it takes not have to a bath!
After each chapter we will complete various vocabulary or comprehension activities to go along with the book. This week we discussed character traits and point of view.
In Math workshop our focus this week was counting by 5s, 10s, 25s and 100s. The students used 100 charts and number lines to count on and back using a variety of starting points.
We also continued to work on our mental math by focusing on the "plus 9" strategy. During their "math fact" rotation, the students enjoyed playing "nine lives" to help recall their basic facts when adding 9.
In science, we spent some time reviewing our "Rocks and Minerals" unit in preparation for the unit test. The students did a great job on their tests. We will review the tests on Monday and then I will be sending them home.
The students had a great time doing the "Mission Impossible" challenge in gym. Thank you to Mr. Henderson for setting up such a great obstacle course!
Congratulations to our Student of the Week. Good luck and hopefully your name will be drawn to win Pizza with the Principle!
Thank you so, so much for your donations to Operation Christmas Child! Robina Baker will be donating 92 boxes to this great cause!
