One Week Down!

Well, we made it through the first week of grade three!  I am thoroughly enjoying getting to know all of my students.  What a great bunch of kids!

Summer Selfies

The first writing project this year involved having the students write about their summer vacation.  We read the story "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" by Mark Teague as a mentor text.  Then I asked the students to respond to a text from me asking them to write about a special memory from their summer.  The students loved taking "summer selfies" to put on the front of their iPhones!

Figure Me Out

Our first math project was called "Figure Me Out."  It was a great way for students to share about themselves.  They were asked to fill in the proper number to answer questions such as "How old are you or how many people are in your family?"  The students were given sticky notes to cover up their answers.  Then they were asked to write math equations to total their answers under the sticky notes.

The Amazing Race

Our "Amazing Race" home reading program will begin next week.  The students coloured their airplanes and they are ready to take off to their first destination,
which is India.  Details about the "Amazing Race" will come home on Tuesday.

Mapping

The first unit we will be doing in Social Studies this year is "mapping."  To introduce this unit, I read the story "Mapping Penny's World" by Loreen Leedy.  Then the students made their mapping title page for their duotangs.

I hope everyone has a great long weekend!
