Congratulations to our VIP this week. We really enjoyed getting to know our friend a little better!
Writing Workshop
Writing Workshop
This week we continued to work on using adjectives to make our writing more descriptive. We brainstormed different adjectives to describe monsters and then the students were asked to complete their "Monster Mad Libs." The students also did a "quick draw" and then wrote two descriptive sentence to describe their monster.
Reading Workshop
The students were excited to be given the opportunity to read to a buddy this week during our Reading Workshop. The students sat "EEKK" and practiced the strategy "I Read, You Read."
Math
This week we started our Number Sense: Place Value unit in Math. In this unit the students will review the place value system for reading and writing numbers in base ten. The following goals were covered this week:
- identify the place value of digits in 2- and 3-digit numbers.
- understand the value of digit in 2- and 3-digit numbers.
- represent 3-digit numbers with base ten materials.
- write numbers represented by base ten blocks.
Science
The students are working very hard on their "Rocks and Minerals" lap books. They have really enjoyed putting the information about rocks and minerals together in such a fun way. This week we focused on learning about the different types of rocks as well as the rock cycle.
Scream Blow Painting
This week our art project was inspired by the book "Monster Mama" written by Liz Rosenberg. The students began their "Monster Mama" portraits by drawing and colouring the screaming faces. Next week the students finish their art work by blow painting in the hair. The "Scream Blow Paintings" will be on display in our hallway in time for Halloween.
PE
This week in Phys Ed we focused on movement and rolling. Here are a few pictures of the students practicing these skills.
Christmas Cards
The students have been working very hard on creating a one-of-a-kind Christmas card. These cards will be on display during parent teacher interviews. You will have the opportunity to purchase reproductions of your child's card to give out at Christmas.
Congratulations to Mr. I for being chosen as the Student of the Week during assembly on Friday. Keep up the great work!
