June 5 - 9

What a fun-filled week we had in 3A!

This Week's VIP

University of Alberta Botanic Gardens Field Trip

What better way to kick of a new week than a trip to the U of A Botanic Gardens. Thank you to Kadie's mom for joining us as a volunteer. We really appreciated it!

The students enjoyed the Tropical Show House full of exotic butterflies.

Wetland Wonders

The students got to take an in-depth look at the pond ecosystems of the Garden by using nets to capture a fascinating variety of pond critters. We also learned about frog life cycles and tried our luck at catching some in our wetland areas.

Going Buggy

The students also captured actual insects and learned about their adaptations, feeding, reproduction and life cycles.

Maze

The hedge maze was a fun activity for the students to explore the labyrinth of Spruce and Caragana and to make their way to the centre, and then back out again!

Track Meet

Congratulations to our athletes who participated in the track meet on Tuesday.

Language Arts

The students continue to enjoy writing about their week in their Back and Forth journals.

After our field trip, the students used the Chrome Books to make a scrapbook page for the U of A Botanic Gardens.

 Math

This week we started our Geometry Unit in math.  We worked on creating and sorting regular as well as irregular polygons, including: • triangles • quadrilaterals • pentagons • hexagons • octagons according to the number of sides.

Science

The students run into the classroom everyday, excited to see what's happening with the chrysalis. I'm happy to report that our first butterflies emerged over the weekend. We have watermelon in the habitats for them to eat. We will be releasing the butterflies once they all emerge.

Our sunflowers have began to sprout.

Congratulations to our Student of the Week!
