We had a short, but busy week in 3A. Please remember that we skate again on Monday. The schedule was emailed out last week along with information about our upcoming Valentine's Day party.

Writing Workshop
This week the students began their "All About Me" paragraphs. Each month, until the end of the year, the students will choose from a list of topics to write a paragraph about themselves. The purpose of this assignment is to focus on proper paragraph writing, including a topic, detail and concluding sentences. After writing on the topic about " My Family" the students were asked to type their paragraphs on the Chromebook. Next week they will draw and colour an illustration to go along with their writing.
We continued to work on our handwriting this week.
Making Words
The students were challenged to figure out the mystery word during our Making Words activity. It didn't help that I forgot to give them the second "T" to spell the word "subtraction." Luckily one of students caught my mistake!
Math

Science
We made it safely across the crack in the earth, narrowly escaping the spewing lava. As we continue to explore the island, we hear the roaring sound of a river nearby. Approaching the river, we realize that it is too fast and deep to cross. But we really don't want to turn around and go back to the beach. We can see banana trees across the river with ripe, delicious bananas hanging from them. Our stomachs growl at the sight of the fruit. We decide that we need to cross the river to reach the bananas. In order to cross the river we will have to build another bridge. Nearby we see some tree bark that we can use as beams to support our bridge.
Challenge #2 is to test a variety of beam designs to see which one will work best for our foot bridge.
We wrote our hypothesis about which beam will be stronger - the rectangular, accordion, or box girder beam. Unfortunately we ran out of time to test the beams. We will finish this challenge on Monday so stay tuned!
Winter Walk
Thank you to the parents who came out to walk with our class during our Winter Walk on Wednesday. Also, a big thank to you to the Town of Devon for the yummy hot chocolate!
Have a great long weekend everyone!
