Last Week of School Before Christmas Break!

We had a very busy, but fun last week of school before the holidays.

Thank you to Mr. Henderson for arranging for the students to skate during their PE time this week.  I would also like to send a big shout out to all of the wonderful parents who helped tie skates.  Your help was greatly appreciated!

Congratulations to  the students who made have reached a new milestone with their home reading.  Keep up the great work 3R!

A big congrats to Mr. L for being chosen as the Student of the Week.  He is such a kind, hard working student who always works to the best of his ability.  I'm so proud of this boy!

Our class had a wonderful last day of school.  Thanks so much to those students who brought in food for our delicious brunch!  Then we enjoyed some time together exchanging gifts.  What a great group of kids.  I am so grateful to be their teacher!

Curriculum Update for the Week

Language Arts
This week the students continued to work on their "All About Me" paragraphs.  They are getting really good at ensuring their paragraphs have topic, supporting and concluding sentences.
I also re-assessed the students this week with their Words Their Way sorts.  These assessments will determine if the students should remain in their current word sort or if they should be placed in a less or more challenging group.  Sometimes it's important for students to revisit certain sorting patterns if they aren't mastered the first time.  The students will be given their new word sort group when they return from holidays.

The students thoroughly enjoyed receiving their letters from Santa.  They couldn't wait to take them home for their parents to read them too!

Math
We reviewed our Numbers to 1000 unit early in the week and then the students wrote their exam on Thursday.  We will begin our next unit in the New Year.

Social Studies
We are almost finished our unit on India.  The students have really enjoyed learning India and comparing the culture to ours.  We will be having our India Day Celebration on Thursday, January 8th to wrap up the unit.
