Fun in the Sun!

The students had such a great time swimming this week!

Global Citizens

As part of our Grade 3 Social Studies curriculum, the students are learning about Global Citizenship.  "Global Citizenship" refers to a feeling of responsibility, beyond a country’s borders, toward humanity.  We have been discussing how our actions might affect people elsewhere in the world, as well as in our own community.  On Monday afternoon the Grade 3 classes participated in a "Global Citizen" project of their own by planting flowers and picking up garbage around the school.  Thank you so much to Independent Grocers for graciously donating flowers for our project!

Language Arts

During our Read Aloud time this week we continued with our Charlotte's Web novel study.  We focused on new words we can use to expand our spoken and written vocabulary.  During our Writer's Workshop time this week the students contributed to Mrs. Down's "Important Book."  As many of you may know, Mrs. Down is retiring this year.  Each student/class has been asked to contribute a page to her "Important Book" by completing the following sentence:

The important thing about Mrs. Down is that ______________________________ _________________________________.

Many students chose to write about Mrs. Down's wonderful musical talent and how kind she was to all of the students in the school.

The student's were also busy working on their cursive writing this week.  They are attempting to do a lot of their written work in handwriting now.

Math

This week we started our Geometry Unit in math.  We worked on creating and sorting regular as well as irregular polygons, including: • triangles • quadrilaterals • pentagons • hexagons • octagons according to the number of sides.

Science

The students finished illustrating their Diary of An Animal books and next week they will be reading them aloud to the class.

Social Studies

During social studies the students took their Peru jot notes and put together 10 complete sentences about their research topic.  Next week they will adding their research sentences and pictures to their "Peru Suitcases."

Congratulations to Mr. M for being chosen as the Student of the Week.
