Curriculum Update
During Reader's Workshop we focused on identifying Story Elements. After reading "The Abominable Snow Teacher" by Lisa Passen, the students filled out story maps to identify the characters, setting, problem and solution of the story.
The students continue to focus on their spelling patterns during our Words Their Way rotations.
During Writer's Workshop the students wrote about what it would be like to be a superhero. The focus of this journal entry was to have the students editing their own writing. Once they were finished writing I asked them to check their work for complete sentences and use of proper conventions.
Math
This week we focused on subtracting triple digit numbers with regrouping. The students played a game called Playful Penguins to reinforced this skill.
Science
The students did an amazing job of designing and creating their musical instruments. They loved presenting to the class and demonstrating how to change the volume and pitch on their instruments.
Social Studies
The students did a wonderful job demonstrating their knowledge of India on their "Show What You Know" poster. Next week we will begin our study of Tunisia.
Art
This week in art we continued to work on our Winter Birch Trees. The students cut out tress and painted them with watercolour. We will be finishing this project next week!
