We had an extremely busy, but fun-filled week in 3D.
Curriculum Update
Language Arts
During Writer's Workshop the students completed their "Reaching for Our Goals in 2016" this week. The students' balloons are on display outside our classroom if you'd like to stop by and take a look. They turned out so cute!
The students also started their "All About Me" writing journals. They will be completing five paragraphs about themselves from a list of topics. The students will be typing and illustrating each paragraph to make an "All About Me" book.
Math
This week in math we covered the following goals:
- Subtract with regrouping using base ten materials and using the standard algorithm
Science
We finished our Hearing and Sound unit in science this week. The students did a great job of completing their instrument projects. They will start presenting their instruments to the class on Monday.
Social Studies
I read the book "Hannah the Henna Helper" by Klaire Pearson prior to our India culture day. This book gave the students ideas for different designs they could have done in henna.

On Friday the grade 3 students at RBES enjoyed the day being immersed in the India culture. The students rotated between the 4 classes participating in various activities to celebrate India. In Mrs. Ferguson/Mr. Larson's room the students played an Indian board game called Pachisi and they also tried a bit of Bollywood dancing. The students had the opportunity to see traditional Indian clothes and have henna tattoo art done on their hand/arms in Mrs. Milson's classroom. Mrs. Forchuk and Mrs. Tewitz taught the students how to do paper carpet weaving. In our classroom the students enjoyed traditional Indian food and they also decorated India flag cookies. The students really enjoyed the day. Thank you to all of the parents who came in to volunteer for the day. Also I would like to send a big thank you to Mrs. Towne, Mrs. Tewitz and Mrs. Forchuk for all of your hard work organizing such a great day!
We had a fantastic week of skating. I would like to send out a big thank you to the parent volunteers who came each day to tie skates and to go on the ice with the kids. Your help is so greatly appreciated! Also, thank you to Mr. Henderson for planning such a fun week of skating activities for the students.
Congratulations to Mr. J for being chosen as the Student of the Week for assembly. It was well deserved!
