Reader's Workshop
This week we continued our study of poetry. In "Rainglasses" Shel Silverstein assumes that if sunglasses keep out the sun, then rainglasses should keep out the rain. He then reimages a pair of glasses with windshield wipers. After reading this poem the students were asked to transform an ordinary object into something extraordinary. Then they wrote a two-line poem describing their creation. Of course their favourite part about this activity was reading their poems aloud to the class.
The students continued to focus on their vocabulary by "Drawing and Labeling" nine words from their Words Their Way lists.
