Reading Workshop
During Reading Workshop we continued to read a variety of Fairy Tales. Fairy Tales are stories that are not real and can't happen in real life. Following are the characteristics of a Fairy Tale:
- Once Upon a Time - most fairy tales start with "once upon a time."
- Good vs. Evil - there is always a battle between good vs. evil in fairy tales.
- Royalty - most fairy tales have kings, queens, prince or princesses.
- Teaches Lessons - fairy tales usually teach values.
- 3 or 7 - there is always a rule of 3 or 7, like 3 wishes or 7 dwarfs.
- Magic - can be used for good or evil intentions.
- Happily Ever After - the hero or heroine always lives happily ever after.

Writing Workshop
This week the students began their Fairy Tale writing by retelling their favourite fairy tale.
Author's Chair
The students enjoyed sharing their Fairy Tale retell with the class.
We also discussed that fairy tale stories teach it's readers lessons. These lessons are values you could learn to make you a better person. They teach these lessons by making the characters learn these values themselves. Using "Snow White" as a mentor text, we discussed that Snow White learned to not talk to strangers. The students were then asked to identify the "lessons learned" in their favourite fairy tales.
All About Me
The students completed writing and illustrating their first topic for their All About Me booklet.
Thursday's word wall activity is "Word Wall Riddles." These students were writing their answers to the riddles on the smart board.
