Curriculum Update
Words Their Way
On Monday we started our Words Their Way spelling program. Word sorts will be introduced each Monday in class. Word work will include sorting their words into categories, and noticing similarities and differences between words that sound alike. They will also write sentences that include the week’s word pattern. Students will continue to do weekly spelling activities and spelling tests. Spelling tests will be on Fridays. For each spelling test I will ask students to spell a random group of 10 of their words for the week. The test will also contain a few new words that follow the spelling patterns studied all week. The main purpose of these spelling tests will be to help guide each student’s instruction, versus memorization of the words.
Fairy Tale Settings
This week we focused on choosing the right settings for our Fairy Tale Hero/Heroines as well as for our Villans. The setting is the place where the story happened and the time when it happened.
Each month the students write one more paragraph to add to their All About Me booklet.
Social
The students did an excelled job of their "Tunisia Class Presentation." They can't wait to share it with their parents during Student Led Conferences.
In math we continued to practice problem solving with addition and subtraction. The students also learned a new game called Race from 1000: Addition and Subtraction. They are so excited to play with their parents next week.
PE
The students continued to work on passing skills this week.
Tunisia Day
On Friday the students had a wonderful time being immersed in the Tunisia culture!
They enjoyed weaving bookmarks using straws and yarn.
They loved creating "mosaic" art pieces out of different types/colours of beans and lentils.
