Writing Workshop
During our Fairy Tale draft writing this week the students focused on "showing it, not saying it" when adding details. We worked on making sure our papers were filled with details and not just writing direct sentences. It's important to "show it" and not just "say" what is going on. We also learned how to go back to our planning sheets and make sure that we were following it. We have to keep going back to our planning sheets because sometimes we get too excited writing our story and we get "off track."
Math
This week the following goals were covered in math:
1. Measuring and drawing in centimeters - the students drew lines and objects of lengths given in an exact number of cm, with and without a ruler.
2. Estimate and measure in meters - the students estimated, compared their estimates using meter sticks and solved problems involving measurements in meters.
Social
We began our study of Ukraine this week. The students created their Ukraine title page and we started taking jot notes from the textbook.
Jurassic Bark Presentation
Rex is a stray dog who has a hard time sharing his things. Polly is a paleontologist who spends her time digging in the dirt. When these two strangers come across a huge, mysterious bone deep in the ground, will they be able to work together to discover where it came from? Or will Rex bury the evidence before they can even begin? Set in Alberta’s world-famous Badlands, this dino-sized adventure explores our relationship to the creatures who came before us, and what we can learn from playing in the dirt.
Art
Sunflowers are the national flower of Ukraine. This week in art the students drew sunflowers and they were outlined in glue. Next week they will be using chalk pastels to finish the pictures.
PE
The students learned "Indigenous Games" during PE this week in preparation of Education Week.
