January 22 - 25

We had a very busy week in 3A!

We started our week by celebrating our Very Important Person (VIP). Thank you for being such a great role model for your peers!

Writing Workshop

Last week we read the "Snow Globe Family" by Jane O'Connor. This book inspired our writing project about "Life in a Snow Globe."  The focus for this activity was to vary our sentences starters and to use vivid verbs in our writing.

The students were so proud of their detailed sentences and loved sharing them with the class.

Handwriting

We continued to work through our handwriting duotang this week.

Math

This week our focus was double and triple digit subtraction, without regrouping. We continued to practice subtraction math strategies to help improve our mental math abilities.

Social Studies

We completed our study of India this week. The students enjoyed our shared read aloud of the book "India....Wish You Were Here."

Mrs. Forchuk shared some letters written by students from India with our class.

PE

We had a fantastic week of skating. I would like to send out a big thank you to the parent volunteers who came each day to tie skates and for going on the ice with the kids. Your help was so greatly appreciated! Also, thank you to Mr. Van Huis for planning such a fun week of skating activities for the students.

Congratulations to our Student of the Week!

India Day

We read the book "Hannah the Henna Helper" by Klaire Pearson prior to our India Culture Day. The book showed different types of henna tattoos from India and the Middle East. The students also learned how to draw traditional patterns so they can create their own henna designs on paper.

T

On Friday the Grade 3 students enjoyed the day being immersed in the India culture. The students rotated between the four classes participating in various activities to celebrate India. In our room the students enjoyed traditional Indian food and watched a cartoon about the Festivals in India.

The students made Diwali lanterns in Mrs. Forchuk and Mrs. Tewitz's class.

In Mrs. Milson's room the students had the opportunity to have henna tattoo art done on their hands.

The students danced to traditional Indian music in Miss Potter's room.

Each of the students also got to take home a peacock feather. The peacock is the national bird of India.

The students also enjoyed learning how to play a traditional board game called Mancala this week.

Have a great weekend everyone!
