With Spring Break right around the corner, we had a busy week trying to wrap up a few units and projects that we had on the go.
Star Student
Our Star Student did a great job of helping out around the classroom this week. We enjoyed your poster presentation and sharing your special items with us.
DanceKreations
A great big "thank you" to Leo with DanceKreations for working with the kids this week to teach them some "salsa" moves. The Raga Revolution performance was so fun and the kids had a blast. Thanks to the parents who were able to come out and watch. It was the perfect way to kick of our Spring Break.
Curriculum Update
Writing Workshop
The students worked hard to publish their Lucky Day narrative stories. The stories were typed on the Chromebooks and edited before being printed off. We used Art Hub for Kids to help guide us with the illustrations.
Reading Workshop
We finished our Robert Munsch author and book study this week.

After reading "We Share Everything" the students responded by identifying Fact vs Opinion statements.

We reviewed the difference between comparing and contrasting after reading Andrew's Loose Tooth. Using a venn diagram, the students were asked to compare the story with their own experiences of loosing a tooth.
We practiced the reading strategies of predicting and questioning during and after reading The Paper Bag Princess.

The students had a great time getting into groups to practice and perform Andrew's Loose Tooth Reader's Theatre. They were assessed on their reading accuracy, fluency, expression, and ability to work cooperatively in a group.
Math
We started our Division unit in math this week.

We learned how to:
- share equally when the number of sets is known.
- find the number of sets when the number of items in each set is known.
- identify in a word problem what is being divided into sets or groups, the number of sets, and the number of items in each set.
Social Studies
As a culmination of our Tunisia unit, the students created a postcard highlighting what they have learned. The idea was that they would write to their parents as if they have been in Tunisia learning about the culture. The criteria for the postcard was to include four accurate facts about any of the following: traditions, celebrations, stories, physical geography, climate, public services, leadership & government, maintaining peace, goods & services, technology, and communication of Tunisia. The students also had to include a relevant picture and use the appropriate format to add their address to the postcard.
Tunisia Day
On Thursday the students had a wonderful time being immersed in the Tunisia culture!
