A field trip, guest instructor for PE, and visit from the Easter Bunny made for an exciting week in 3A!
Overview of our week:
Writing Workshop
The students finished writing the last two arguments and a closing statement of their Easter Bunny Assistant job application. Then they compiled their arguments into a persuasive letter, trying to convince the Easter Bunny to hire them.
Reading Workshop
This week we read chapter 3 of Mouse and the Motorcycle called "Trapped." The reading response activity required the students to rewrite the setting of the chapter. Rather than the mouse, Ralph, falling and getting trapped in a wastebasket, the students had to come up with an alternate setting.
Word Study
This week the students worked through 20 task cards to reinforce the skill of identifying verbs. I placed 20 cards with different sentences up on the walls in the classroom. The students moved independently around the room reading each sentence. Using a numbered chart the task was to write down the verb from each sentence.
Handwriting
We began our Spring Handwriting Joke Book this week. This booklet gives the students practice joining letters to form words and sentences. Each page of the booklet has a riddle that the students trace first and then they have to writing the sentence again on their own.
Here is the first riddle for you:
What season is it when you are on a trampoline?
Answer:
Springtime!
Math
This week we worked on the following goals:
- multiplication or division sentences to solve word problems.
We also completed a task card challenge in math this week. The students were asked to answer 20 "division" word problem questions. Their treat for completing the task was an Easter pencil. We made the pencil toppers out of pipe cleaners. They turned out so cute and the students absolutely love them!
Social Studies
In social studies we read and sketched about the environment and goods/services in Ukraine.
RMS Entrepreneur Field Trip
The students loved walking over to Riverview Middle School and shopping at the market. Thank you so much for sending money with your child to support a local charity. The Grade 9 Entrepreneur Market raised $2,564.25 for a charity of their choice. I will be sure to let you know which local charity the students choose.
PE
This week we had a community Triathlon School Program Coordinator come in from Monday to Wednesday to teach our Grade 1-4 students triathlon skills. We learned that a triathlon includes swimming, running, and biking. The students received a certificate for competing in a mock triathlon on Wednesday in the gym. The students had a blast.
