December 14 - 18th

We had such a great last day of school before Christmas holidays.  The students really enjoyed wearing their PJ's and having our brunch party!

The students were excited to open their Scholastic Book order certificates. In January I will be sending home the new Scholastic book orders forms. Once your child has selected the book they would like (value of $5.00 or less), they just need to fill out the form and attach their certificate.

Thanks so much to the parents who provided the wonderful brunch snacks for our party!

Thanks to the Devon Town Council, all of the students at RBES received a free pair of mittens.  The acronym HAP on the mittens stands for Have A Purpose.  The students were asked to think about what they would like their purpose in life to be and to strive to carry out that purpose.

The students received a very special surprise during our party.  They were so thrilled to receive their letters back from Santa.  Each student enjoyed reading their letter and sharing them with their friends.

Thank you to the parent council for providing popcorn for all of the students while they cozied up to watch Ice Age in the gym.

Curriculum Update

My family has an Elf on the Shelf named Jingle.  Each day during this holiday season I have been sharing a picture with the students of what Jingle has been up to in my house.  We have had a lot of fun with this and the students look forward to me sharing the picture with them each day.  This gave me the idea for their Monday Journal prompt.  I asked the students to write about what they would do if they were an Elf on the Shelf.  The focus of this journal writing was to write a proper paragraph and to pay attention to conventions as well.

We also continued to work on our cursive writing this week.

The students really enjoyed having the opportunity to buddy read with 3B this week.

Math

During math this week our focus was "adding 3-digit numbers with and without regrouping." In addition to the practice in our workbook, the students also played a few games to reinforce this concept.

Social Studies

This week we continued to discuss the environment and focused on the four regions of India. When we return from holidays we will complete our study of India.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
