We had such a fun week in 3A! The students have been busy preparing for the Christmas concert, writing Santa letters and working on "top secret" art projects!
The students got to kick off the week with their Rootbeer Float Party! Thank you to the Parent Council for supplying the rootbeer and ice cream! The students loved the floats, but more importantly, they were so proud to collect 724 items to give to the Devon Christmas Elves!

Curriculum Update
Writing Workshop
The students finished their letters to Santa and are anxiously awaiting his response.
The students rush into the classroom every morning to see what Chip has been up to. They continue to enjoy writing about our Elf on the Shelf in their morning report.
This week we worked on the letters C and R in handwriting.
Reading Workshop
During Reading Workshop we watched the Polar Express movie and compared it to the book. Comparing the differences and similarities between texts or a book to movie is a fantastic comprehension strategy for readers.
We also began practicing our Reader's Theatre entitled "Bob the Goofy Reindeer." Next week will be performing it for our Grade One buddies.
Congratulations to our Amazing Race flyers who made it to the next destination!
Math
This week in math we continued working on Lesson 11 - Regrouping of Ones, Tens, and Hundreds
The students also worked on their math fluency by playing Soldier Solute.
Social Studies
In social studies, we began our unit on India. The students had a great time filling in and colouring their Canadian passports.
We also coloured the flag of India on the front cover of our Travel Journal. We discussed what the symbol and represent. The National flag of India is a horizontal tri-color of deep saffron (kesari) at the top, white in the middle and dark green at the bottom in equal proportion. In the centre of the white band is a navy blue wheel which represents the chakra. The deep saffron represents courage and sacrifice, the white represents peace and truth and the green represents faith and chivalry. The Chakra signifies the spreading of spiritual blessings and well being.
Thank you to Mrs. Kloschinsky and Mrs. Boida for helping the students with one of our special art projects!
