It was another week of fun and learning in 3A.
We kicked off our week by celebrating our new VIP. Everyone enjoyed learning more about our special friend.
Curricular Update:
Writing Workshop
The students did an excellent job of their journal entries on Monday. They are really focusing on writing paragraphs that include elaborative detail, complete sentences and proper punctuation.
Fairy Tale Unit
We began our Fairy Tale Unit this week by focusing on the Three Little Pigs. We read three versions of the classic fairy tale.
The students were asked to fill in graphic organizers to identify the story's characters, setting, problem and solution.
We also spent time working on our spelling patterns in class.
Reading Workshop
We continued to read our novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
We also read a story called Jenny Loves Yoga. The students were asked to complete a quiz independently after reading the book to test their comprehension skills.
We also practiced trying to meditate. Who knew that quieting the mind would be so tricky?
Math
We continued with division this week by representing a division sentence as repeated addition in which the divisor is added repeatedly until the total is equal to the dividend.
We completed our Tunisia lapbook this week.
We also enjoyed watching a video called "Tarek, The Camel Racer."
On Friday the students had a wonderful time being immersed in the Tunisia culture!
They enjoyed weaving using straws and yarn.
They loved creating "mosaic" art pieces out of different types/colours of beans and lentils.
