Yogurt Parfait Party
The students were so excited to celebrate learning their multiplication facts to 5 with a "Yogurt Parfait Party!"
The students had a wonderful time on the U of A Botanic Gardens field trip. Thank you so much to Mrs. Mirau and Nathan's Nana for volunteering to join the class. It was greatly appreciated!
The students enjoyed the Tropical Plant and Butterfly showhouse full of exotic butterflies.
Wetland Wonders
The students got to take an in-depth look at the pond ecosystems of the garden by using nets to capture a fascinating variety of pond critters. We also learned about frog life cycles and tried their luck at catching some in the wetland areas.
Going Buggy
The students also captured actual insects and learned about their adaptations, feeding, reproduction and life cycles.
Curriculum Update
Literacy
The students were very busy this week typing and illustrating their Fractured Fairy Tales.
Math
The following outcomes were covered in our Measurement unit this week:
- decide on the most appropriate unit to measure length or distance
- compare measurements in different units
- find the perimeter of polygons by counting units and by adding side lengths
- estimate and measure the perimeter of regular and irregular polygons
- investigate patterns in perimeters of figures composed of identical shapes and realize that perimeter is not additive
- construct shapes with given perimeters
Science
The students continued to journal about the butterflies as they emerged.
It was with mixed emotions that the students finally had to said "goodbye" and released the butterflies.
