June 4 - 8th

We had a very busy week in 3A.

The students enjoyed another afternoon of "wellness" activities on Wednesday afternoon.

Congratulations to the students who represented RBES at the track meet on Friday!

Curricular Update:

Literacy

The students started typing their Fractured Fairy Tales using a template in Google Classroom.

We continue to work on their handwriting in class.

One of our favourite parts of the day is completing our Butterfly Journal entries.

Math

This week we covered the following in our Measurement Unit:
  • estimate measurements in metres and compare their estimates to measurements made using a metre stick
  • solve problems involving measurements in metres
  • investigate the relationship between centimetres and metres
  • convert measurements in metres and centimetres to only centimetres
  • measure in metres and centimetres
  • develop a sense of 1 km and the relationship between kilometres and metres
  • solve problems involving distances in kilometres

Science

The students run into the classroom everyday, excited to see what's happening with the chrysalises. I'm happy to report that all but one of our butterflies have emerged. We have watermelon in the habitats for them to eat. We will be releasing the butterflies once they all emerge.

We also learned more about the life cycles of frogs and insects. The students also completed a review and will be writing a Life Cycles test next week.

Social Studies

We began our study of Peru this week. The students will be using the National Geographic Kids website to research and answer questions about Peru.

Have a great weekend everyone!
