We enjoyed celebrating our Star Student this week.
We had fun getting you know her better.
Education Week
The students participated in many great activities to celebrate Education Week at RBES. We kicked the week off with a Pancake Breakfast on Monday. Thank you to everyone who helped make and serve the wonderful breakfast.
On Tuesday, the students participated in a cooperative art project. Each student was given 1/4 of a flower to decorate. The flower pieces were put together on the gym wall to create a beautiful flower mural.
It was a pleasure having a visitor from the Devon Lions Club read to our class and present us with a book for our classroom library. Thank you to the Devon Lion’s Club!
On Thursday the students participate in a school wide writing project. The writing project began with a picture prompt of a zebra on a tightrope. Each class was given an opportunity to contribute to the story by writing a paragraph together.
The finished story was revealed to on Friday and then period 10 was set aside for a school wide reading block.

Writing Workshop
Last week we read "The Day the Crayons Quit" by Drew Daywalt. The students were asked to chose a crayon colour to write a letter to, convincing that crayon not to quit.
This week the students created a list of counter-arguments to include in their response to their crayon. Then they included their response and counter arguments in a letter to the crayons.
The students also illustrated a title page for "The Day the Crayon Quit" and were asked to just the colour that they write their letters to.
Reading Response
This week we read chapter 7 - "The Vacuum Cleaner" in The Mouse and the Motorcycle. Then the students completed a reading response activity answering the question "How did Ralph behave recklessly?"
Math
This week in math we began our Measurement unit. The focus was to estimate and measure lengths to the closest centimetre, as well as, draw lines and objects of lengths given in an exact number of centimetres, with and without a ruler.
We also finished our x4 Parfait Challenge this week.
Social Studies
This week the students worked on their Ukraine Class Google Presentation. Each student was given a partner and a topic from Ukraine to cover. Using our class jot notes and the text book, each pair were asked to add two slides to the presentation. The first slide consisted of the title a background picture. The second slide was to include a paragraph about their topic. The students will be completing and presenting their slides next week.
Art
The students completed their "Stacked Birdies" art project this week.
