We are extremely busy in 3A trying to wrap things up before summer holidays. Also please be sure to take a look at our upcoming June schedule as there are many things going on this month.
Curriculum Update
Writing Workshop
The students continued to write their Fractured Fairy Tales this week. They focused on the problem of their story and building tension to engage the reader.
The students are typing their stories as they write each paragraph.
Reading Workshop

We read a great story this week about a Beautiful Butterfly who learns her lesson about vanity and pride the hard way. But she discovers that anything is possible in life.
Math
In math, the following measurement outcomes were covered:
- convert between different units of time.
- solve simple problems that require converting time intervals.
- convert between different units of time.
- use calendars to determine the number of days in a month and use this
information to solve problems.
- solve problems that require converting between units of time.
- compare masses of objects by using a balance.
- use a scale to measure the mass of objects in grams and kilograms.
Science
It was with mixed emotions that the students finally had to said "goodbye" and released our butterflies this week. We loved raising the butterflies in our classroom and I know it will be a fond memory that the students will have of Grade 3.
The students were asked to investigate and report on an animal life cycle of their choice using the PowerKnowledge Life Science website.
They were assessed on the following:
- name and include an illustration of each life cycle stage of their animal.
- write a detailed description of each life cycle stage.
PE
This week we worked on Track and Outdoor Field stations.
Congratulations to our Star of the Week. It was fun getting to know you better.

We finished our Life Cycles study this week by learning about the stages of the chicken and the frog.
The students were asked to investigate and report on an animal life cycle of their choice using the PowerKnowledge Life Science website.
They were assessed on the following:

PE
This week we worked on Track and Outdoor Field stations.
Ukrainian Lunch
Thank you so much to the wonderful volunteers who came in on Friday to prepare a Ukrainian lunch for the students. They really enjoyed the perogies, Ukrainian sausage and Kiev cake!
