November 4 - 8

Remembrance Day Ceremony

On Friday we had the opportunity to celebrate and remember all of those people who have served our country and our community. The students looked great dressed in their best clothes to participate in our Remembrance Day ceremony.

The Grade 4 students did an amazing job of reciting 'In Flanders Fields" for the students, parents, and honoured guests at the ceremony.

Great job to the choir for singing a beautiful song.

One of our 4A friends also did a wonderful job of reciting a poem during the ceremony.

May we all take time to think about the soldiers that fought for our freedom and those that paid the ultimate price. Lest we forget!

The students enjoyed creating poppy artwork to decorate the gym for the Remembrance Day ceremony.

Following is an overview of the curriculum covered this week:

Our Kidblog writing schedule this week included:

Jounral Writing Monday - Weekend Post
Talk About it Tuesday - Favourite Reading Genre
WeSearch Wednesday - What is Climate?
Week in Review - 3 Things I Learned, 2 Things I Liked, and 1 Question I have

I have figured out the problem with not being able to view your child's blog post. If you use the link and code I emailed last week, you should now be able to read the posts.

The grammar focus this week was on action verbs. A verb is a word that shows the action in a sentence. It shows what someone or something is doing.

We also spent some time reviewing our handwriting letters A and D this week.

Math

The students completed an assessment on the first few lessons of our place value unit. The following outcomes were covered:

- identifying the place value of digits in two-, three-, and four-digit numbers.
- writing number words for numbers up to ten thousand.

Social Studies

In social studies we began our study of Alberta - A Sense of the Land. We started by filling in a KWL Chart about Alberta.

We also discussed what climate is.

The students did some research on the climate in Alberta for Friday, November 8th. Using the link Government of Canada - Alberta Weather Conditions the students completed a table about the weather in various cities in Alberta. They recorded the maximum and minimum temperatures, as well as the weather conditions for Friday. Using this information the students were asked what they noticed about the temperatures throughout Alberta.

Enjoy your November break everyone!
